Legacy of a Patriot: The Unbreakable Spirit of Qazi Hashim Baloch
Qazi Hashim Baloch, a veteran leader and devoted member of the Baloch National Movement (BNM), has passed away after a long illness. His life stands as a powerful testament to ideological conviction and a tireless struggle for the Baloch national cause. In the face of brutal state aggression, he remained a steadfast symbol of resistance, deeply loyal to the movement’s mission.
A Foundational Architect
From the earliest days of the BNM’s expansion, Qazi Hashim was a pivotal figure. As one of the pioneering members in the Jahoo region, he worked closely with contemporaries like Ustad Ali Jan and Dr. Mannan Jan to build the party’s organizational foundations. His strategic efforts were instrumental in establishing a strong BNM presence in Jahoo, a region that would later become critical to the Baloch struggle for freedom.
Forged in Fire
A defining moment in his life came on August 25, 2009. While organizing an event for a fallen comrade Shaheed Altaf Baloch in Jahoo’s main bazaar, Qazi Hashim, alongside Ustad Ali Jan and others, was ambushed by a state-backed death squad. He was severely wounded in the attack, suffering a broken hand, yet his resolve was unshaken.
This event was a prelude to further hardship. Repeated military offensives later reduced his home village of Koharu to ruins and placed it under siege, forcing him and his family into exile in Western Balochistan. Even as a refugee, displaced from his ancestral land, his commitment to the national cause never wavered.
Expanding the Struggle
Qazi Hashim’s influence extended beyond his own direct actions; he was a mentor who guided the next generation of leaders. In 2013, he directed then-Secretary General Dr. Mannan Baloch and the current Secretary General Dil Murad Baloch on a crucial mission into the remote Sorgar mountain range. There, they connected with Baloch herding communities, sharing the message of national resistance and freedom. This initiative, guided by his vision, successfully transformed Sorgar into a vital stronghold for the Baloch national movement.
