The subjugation of Balochistan was the result of British conspiracies and military aggression. When state power weakened, Pakistan, on March 27, 1948, used British-imposed administrative divisions as a pretext to deny Balochistan’s independence and launched an invasion to occupy it.
These views were expressed by speakers at events organized by the Baloch National Movement (BNM) on the occasion of Balochistan’s Occupation Day. The programs were held by the Shaheed Anwar Advocate (Kech-Gwadar) and Shaheed Rashid (Mashkay-Awaran) Zones.
Among the speakers were BNM’s Senior Vice Chairman Dr. Jalal Baloch, Junior Vice Chairman Babul Latif, Central Committee member Chief Aslam, former Central Committee member Yousuf Baloch, Mashkay-Awaran Zonal President Ustad Mehran Baloch, Kech-Gwadar Zonal President Baba G.R , Kech-Gwadar Zonal General Secretary Jehand Baloch, Mashkay-Awaran Zonal Vice President Talar Naz, Sarbaz Wafa, and others.
The speakers emphasized that an occupying force always strikes first at history and culture. It distorts history to such an extent that a nation becomes unaware of its own identity and significance. When a nation lose touch with their history and traditions, their process of evolution comes to a halt. The occupying state’s first move was to crack down on the leaders of the Kalat State National Party. Instead of resisting, many leaders, including Ghaus Bakhsh Bizenjo and Mohammad Hussain Unqa, abandoned their party and joined the Muslim League. When the political system weakens, society weakens as well. This decline provided the opening for the Baloch resistance movement to suffer setbacks.
The speakers stated that every day under occupation is a dark day, but March 27 holds particular significance as the day Balochistan lost its freedom. Since then, the Baloch nation has endured relentless oppression. Its leadership is systematically targeted, and the occupying state is determined to erase Baloch identity and existence. The enemy wants to instill in us a sense of inferiority, weakness, and incompetence to justify its rule. Declaring Baloch national heroes as terrorists and depriving Baloch children of education and awareness are all part of this calculated policy.
They warned that Pakistan is creating conditions in Balochistan even worse than those in Bangladesh. However, we must not bow before this tyranny. We must be prepared for resistance, and every individual must contribute to the freedom struggle, both personally and collectively. If we rise above fear and hopelessness and fight with unwavering determination, victory will be ours. The occupier has no moral or legal legitimacy over our land. If not today, then tomorrow, it will be forced to acknowledge this reality and withdraw. Until that day comes, we must persist with patience and unwavering resistance.
The speakers further stated that Balochistan’s occupation did not begin in 1948 but much earlier when the British first set foot on this land. They divided Balochistan, imposed their rule through puppet leaders, and seized control over governance and authority.
