Instead of giving aid , the international community should hold Pakistan accountable for human rights abuses in Balochistan-Spokesperson BNM

The international community should ensure that the aid received by Pakistan is not used against the Baloch and other oppressed nations.

The spokesperson of the Baloch National Movement expressed concern over the donor conference and aid promises organized by Pakistan and the United Nations in Geneva.

“As in the past, the aid received by the international community will be used against the oppressed and subjugated Baloch, Sindhis and Pashtuns. The past is a witness that Pakistan used the aid against Baloch nation received in the war on terrorism and combating natural disasters. The international community should ensure that the aid received by Pakistan is not used against the Baloch and other oppressed nations.” Says the Spokesperson.

The spokesperson added that a part of Sindh and Balochistan is currently submerged in water. Millions of people are forced to live under the open sky , but Pakistan had not used the available resources to rehabilitate the flood victims. For Pakistan, these are occupied and conquered regions. Aid, rehabilitation and development of conquered and occupied areas were never among the priorities of the occupiers. The situation of flood victims in Sindh and Baluchistan was clear proof.

He claimed that military operations and aggression were going on in Balochistan daily. Human rights had been being flouted. Thousands of people had been forcibly disappeared and killed. The Pakistan army and intelligence agencies had turned the Baloch homeland into a graveyard. On the other hand, “Pakistan is near bankruptcy”, and its military is in dire need of support . In such circumstances, more aid from the international community would be tantamount to providing resources for more bloodshed in Baloch homeland.

The spokesman said that instead of providing more aid, the international community should hold Pakistan accountable and impose sanctions considering the massacres and serious violations of human rights in Balochistan. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights should be upheld, and uniform standards of respect for human rights should be imposed on all countries, including Pakistan.
