Abdul Ghafoor Baloch, an imprisoned leader of the Baloch National Movement (BNM), lost his mother to the sorrow of long separation on Wednesday, March 5, 2025. A former member of BNM’s Central Committee, he was arrested by the Pakistan army on December 26, 2009, and has been forcibly disappeared since.

In a statement, the BNM spokesperson expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the imprisoned leader’s mother and extended condolences to the bereaved family. Her death is a tragic reflection of the shared grief of thousands of parents in Balochistan who have died waiting for their forcibly disappeared loved ones. For the past 15 years, Abdul Ghafoor has been held under unknown conditions in Pakistan army torture cells.

The spokesperson stated that Abdul Ghafoor was forcibly disappeared for the second time in December 2009 and remains in detention. Previously, he had also been a victim of enforced disappearance, yet despite enduring torture, he refused to abandon his struggle after his release. Due to his affiliation with BNM and the national liberation movement, he has been imprisoned for the past 16 years, with no information available about his life or health.

The spokesperson further affirmed that BNM will continue to document and present evidence of state repression against the Baloch nation to international bodies. Abdul Ghafoor Baloch, Dr. Deen Mohammad, Ramzan, and Hasil Hasrat are among BNM’s imprisoned activists who have remained missing for decades, alongside thousands of other forcibly disappeared Baloch. Pakistan continues to use enforced disappearances as a weapon to suppress the Baloch nation’s struggle for freedom.
