Shaal: PaanK, the human rights department of the Baloch National Movement, has released its October 2023 report on human rights violations in Balochistan. The report sheds light on several incidents that highlight the violation of human rights in Balochistan.

According to the report, there were 34 cases of enforced disappearances documented in October 2023. PaanK accuses Pakistani forces of illegally detaining thousands of Baloch people, including these disappearances. This raises concerns about the conduct of the authorities.

The report also reveals that two individuals were killed by Pakistani forces in extrajudicial encounters. The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of the police has claimed responsibility for these killings.

The report says that despite these challenges, various human rights groups and affected families organized protests and demonstrations throughout the month. The family of student leader Shabbir Ahmed staged a protest in Karachi demanding his safe return, and a seminar was held on the issue of enforced disappearances of human rights activist Rashid Hussain Baloch.

The report highlights several notable human rights cases, including the enforced disappearance of Ali Asghar Banglazai in June 2000 and the recent release of Abdul Hameed Zahri, who had disappeared. The families of both individuals continue to seek justice.

PaanK’s report also expresses concern over the enforced disappearance of Safar Ali, a 10-year-old from Balochistan, and the arrest of Farid Baloch, a student at Punjab University. According to the report, Farid was falsely accused of drug dealing after his arrest.

The report provides a comprehensive analysis of the human rights challenges faced by the people of Balochistan in October 2023. It calls on international organizations to address these issues and take immediate action to protect and promote human rights in the region.
