The spokesperson of the Baloch National Movement stated in a press release that an international awareness campaign will be launched regarding the nuclear tests conducted on May 28, 1998, in the Chagai region of Balochistan and their long-lasting human, environmental, social, and public health impacts.
The spokesperson said that, as in previous years, efforts will be made this year as well to inform human rights organizations, environmental groups, academic circles, civil society, media, and conscious individuals in different countries about Pakistan’s nuclear tests, their radioactive consequences, uranium mining from Baloch land, and the dumping of nuclear waste on Baloch soil.
He said that the nuclear tests conducted on May 28, 1998, are officially presented by the state as a national achievement, but for the occupied land of Balochistan, that day marked a nuclear scar whose effects are still being suffered by the local population today. Pakistan chose Baloch land for its nuclear explosions in order to collectively punish the Baloch nation.
The Baloch National Movement believes that the land, resources, and geography of Balochistan have always been used by Pakistan for its military and strategic objectives, and that this situation will continue until we achieve national freedom.
The spokesperson further stated that, in this context, BNM members should make efforts in different countries to expose Pakistani crimes through protests, media campaigns, pamphlets, and documentation. All chapters are instructed to organize prominent programs on this day.
