During an official event in the city of Zutphen, Netherlands, a representative of the Baloch National Movement (BNM), Basit Zaheer Baloch, called on the European Union to immediately suspend Pakistan’s GSP+ status.
In the program organized by the Zutphen Municipality, Basit Zaheer Baloch highlighted serious human rights violations in Balochistan — particularly enforced disappearances, unlawful arrests, and extrajudicial killings. He stated that Pakistani state institutions are misusing their power to target thousands of Baloch political activists, students, women, and children through abduction, torture, and other inhumane practices.
He further stated that the GSP+ trade privileges granted to Pakistan by the European Union are conditioned upon respect for and promotion of human rights. However, Pakistan consistently violates these principles. Therefore, extending such privileges to a country that breaches international human rights conventions is fundamentally unjust.
Basit Zaheer Baloch stressed that the European Union must immediately revoke Pakistan’s GSP+ status, as the country is violating essential principles of human rights, labor rights, environmental standards, and good governance — tearing apart the very agreements it has pledged to uphold.
After the event, the BNM representative also distributed informative brochures to participants and organizers detailing the human rights situation in Balochistan.
