The Baloch National Movement’s (BNM) human rights organization, ‘Paank,’ has released its monthly report for February 2025, exposing alarming human rights violations in Balochistan.

According to the report, the Pakistan Army extrajudicially killed 18 people and forcibly disappeared 134 individuals in Balochistan during February. The highest number of cases were reported in Awaran, Gwadar, and Kech. Additionally, 50 individuals who had endured severe mental and physical torture were released without any legal proceedings or explanation for their abuse.

Paank’s report highlights a disturbing surge in enforced disappearances, torture, and extrajudicial killings throughout February, directly implicating the Pakistan Army in these atrocities.

The report documents enforced disappearances not only in 14 districts of Balochistan but also in parts of Punjab and Sindh. In Awaran, 26 individuals were disappeared; in Gwadar, 25; and in Kech, 21. The victims include students, social activists, and laborers, leaving families anguished and desperate for information about their loved ones.

In response to these disappearances, affected families staged protests along the Shaal-Karachi and Shaal-Taptaan highways, demanding justice and the safe return of their missing relatives.

The report also recounts chilling incidents of extrajudicial killings. Momin Baloch, Kamran Baloch, and Mehraj Niaz were abducted, tortured, and brutally murdered within days. Among the victims were Allahdad, an MPhil student from Kech, and Abdul Wahid, a laborer from Gwader — illustrating that the Pakistan Army’s violence spares neither educated youth nor working-class citizens.

Paank also expressed grave concern over the rising number of killings carried out by state-backed death squads, warning that violence against civilians is escalating at an alarming rate.

Despite these dire circumstances, affected families and activists continue their struggle for justice. The Voice for Baloch Missing Persons (VBMP) protest camp has been ongoing for 5,751 days, standing as a powerful symbol of resistance and a voice for the families of the disappeared.

Paank has called upon the United Nations, the European Union, and other international human rights organizations to pressure Pakistan to halt its oppressive actions in Balochistan. The report urges global bodies to send independent investigative missions to ensure impartial inquiries into enforced disappearances, torture, and extrajudicial killings.

Pank stressed that sustained international attention is essential to holding Pakistan accountable for its ongoing human rights violations in Balochistan.
